Seasearch Observer Course – 13th June 2009

tompotblenny1Kate Cole of Sussex Seasearch has kindly agreed to run a Seasearch Observer course for Brighton Marina Divers on 13th June at Brighton Marina Yacht Club. This is a one day course starting at 10am and finishing around 5pm aimed at giving divers new to the Seasearch project and new to marine recording a basic grounding. At the end of the course we will be able to complete the Seasearch Observation Form and get our own Adopt a Site project up and running

scapa_hindenburg_sunkIn 1919 the pride of the German nation their High Seas Fleet was scuttled in Scapaflow. Salvage experts at the time said that it would be near impossible to raise the wrecks but against massive odds one man who had never salvaged a ship bought the sunken fleet and over period of six years raised ship after ship.

Alan Young has been a member of the RNLI for many years and he has kindly agreed to relate his experience of common safety problems regularly encountered by the RNLI. He will also talk about the use of VHF radio and flares along with the safety checks that all boat owners should carry out before taking to sea.

Medallions will be worn and we are all invited to join in… it will be impossible not to as we all get down to the boogie!

 

Annie will be bringing her sisters so there will be the opportunity for a group performance.

 

It’s an important skill so let’s all keep up to date…everyone very welcome and its free

This will take place at the Brighton Marina Yacht Club on Thursday 19th February at 8:00pm

Mulberry Harbour Talk - 15th January

On Thursday 15th January at 8:30pm Nigel Baker will give a talk at Brighton Marina Yacht club on the history of the Mulberry Harbour unit. Many members will have enjoyed diving the Far Mulberry at Selsey and wondered who on earth came up with the idea of floating concrete harbours across the Channel for the Allied Invasion of Normandy - Nigel will explain all!
